Write a report on an infectious disease. Pick an infectious disease and report on it. Is your disease fatal or just a nuisance? Will your friends and family avoid you? Is there a cure or a vaccine? Is it important in history or is it a newly emerged disease? This is your chance to learn about a disease of your choice.
The report must be written in the number order of the questions listed below, include any citations and a bibliography using the MLA format. You will use Turnitin.com for submitting your assignment. Instructions will follow later for how to submit it. Any plagiarized report will not be accepted. It will lose a grade and the paper will be returned for revision. The paper must be rewritten and handed in the next class period if was plagiarized.
Avoid plagiarism at all costs. According to CAC’s honor code, plagiarism includes “representing another's work or any part thereof, published or unpublished as one's own. Reports should include the following information:
1. What does the name mean? Who named/discovered it?
2. What causes the disease? How do you get it? Is it a bacteria, virus, etc.?
3. Do any other organisms carry it or suffer from it?
4. Is it associated with any particular region of the world? Why?
5. How many people has it affected?
6. Is everyone equally vulnerable, or does it target particular categories of people? Why?
7. Is it chronic (lasting a long time) or acute (causing an immediate health crisis)?
8. What are the symptoms? How is it diagnosed?
9. How does the virus, bacteria, etc. interact with your body to cause the symptoms?
10. Has the disease impacted the course of history? Give an example.
11. Is there a cure or vaccine? What drugs/treatments are available? If you are cured, can you get the disease again? If there isn’t a cure, is there any promise for a cure?
12. Include graphics and charts that help to understand the disease.
13. Add two of your own questions at the end of your report and answer them.
